TRICKSTER TALES  |  40 minutes

Compiled and Adapted by Brenda P. Schleunes

Through the antics of Ijapa the Tortoise from West Africa, Grandma Beetle from Mexico, Fox from England, Brother Rabbit from Cambodia and Bo Rabbit from the Sea Islands of South Carolina, Trickster Tales is a lively romp across five continents as this variety of tricksters work to educate children how and how not to live. They also demonstrate that all cultures have something in common.

Using words and phrases from a variety of languages, the four actors present these charming tales in an entertaining attention holding style that will help children appreciate the beautiful and interesting customs of their culturally diverse classmates.

A study guide created to accompany this piece provides helpful pre-and post-performance activities that will assist teachers in applying the performance experience in the classroom
